\"mw\"<\/a>I graduated from The University of Sheffield Medical School in 1994. I undertook my Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in the Yorkshire Deanery. I developed an interest in Hand and Wrist surgery early in my training which allowed me to tailor my training accordingly.<\/p>\n

I was born in Preston and I was delighted when I was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist surgeon with The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in March 2006.<\/p>\n

\"op\"<\/a>My aim is to provide a high quality, patient-centred Hand and Wrist service. I cover the entire spectrum of Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist disorders. Besides the more common hand and wrist procedures, I perform joint replacements for arthritis, and a variety of procedures for disorders of the wrist including wrist arthroscopies, ligament reconstructions and vascularised bone grafts for conditions such as scaphoid non-unions.<\/p>\n

In addition I undertake some elbow surgery including tennis and golfer’s elbow surgery, radial head replacement and ulnar nerve decompression.<\/p>\n

Following my appointment to The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust I introduced a Regional anaesthetic-based hand and wrist surgery service into both my NHS and Private practice. This allows more patients to undergo their surgery as a Day Case with minimal disruption to their weekly routine and without the potential side effects of General anaesthesia.<\/p>\n

\"mw2\"<\/a>I am a keen sportsman and played representative cricket for my county as a teenager. As well as still playing, I am an ECB qualified cricket coach at club and District level.<\/p>\n

I play golf (badly) and enjoy mountain biking and walking. I manage Hand and Wrist Injuries for Preston North End Football Club.<\/p>\n

Professionally, I am deeply committed to the Training and Education of future surgeons. In 2011 I received the Orthopaedic Trainer of the Year award from the North West Orthopaedic Trainees Association, in recognition of my contribution to regional training. I am a Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Regional Surgical Adviser and Younger Fellows Committee member and Training and Education Committee member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand.<\/p>\n
